There was a story in one of the Classic mags a few years ago about a British guy who rallied a 308 (or maybe a 328). He used to get his expenses paid by the organisers who used his Fezza for event publicity.

Although there's one *bit* of a Ferrari that has a long and honourable rally history - the engine propelling the Lancia Stratos!

Did anyone ever rally a 288 GTO? After all, it was a 400-off Group B car.

It wasn't one of 400. Famously it was 1 of 288......until Nikki Lauda (I think!) wanted one and they made 289!

I always thought it was a 288 'cos of it's engine, 2.8 litre 8 cylinder, as per the 308, 328 etc.

OK, I've looked it up now! According to Nathan Beehl's book 'Ferrari Supercars', after the initial batch of 200 were made for Group B homologation purposes (I can't believe I wrote 400 for a Gp B car ) a further 72 were built. The last one was indeed rumoured to have been sold to Niki Lauda.

Best looking Ferrari by a mile IMO!
