now heres a car i believe should always be remembered unfortunately its usually overshadowed by the stratos an equally beatiful machine. this is probably due to the relatively short running it had compared to the rest of the lancia rallye cars, the lancia factory team used it for not more than 4 years i think as a temp replacement for the stratos until the mighty delta took over.

This lovely Martini-liveried example in Safari spec was part of the Group B rally car demonstration at the Historic Motorsport Show at Stoneleigh recently. I was 13/14 when this fabulous beast was in it's heyday and I always thought it was stunning. Loved the quattros and 6R4s but the 037 was just so much more graceful. Doesn't it just shout 'Markku "Maximum Attack" Alen'...

I've only ever seen one road-going 037; a red one at Silverstone many years ago. Anyone know how many are in the UK?

If I had one I'd be 'super happy'.

There was some talk about Lancia returning to the uk recently, but petitions and stuff have been flying about for years now.

AFAIK , its not going to happen, certainly not the way the Lancia brand is going. Current line up is awful. I think Fiat see it this way -

Alfa - Less expensive drivers cars
Fiat - Middle of the range, bit of everything
Maserati - Luxury sports brand

Lancia - Ah. well, they used to be somewhere between fiat and maserati... well now weve bought maserati what shall we do with em. err.... I dont know.

But the new Fulvia concept. That would be worth importing.

Simon.
