Right. impulse purchase coming up..

Ive found what I think is a triumph 2000. it looks kind of like this

but id swear it had single headlamps.

It had a 4 speed gearbox, bodywork is good but paint has faded. Interior is lovely condition. How much?

Hrm. well it must be a mk1, but I remember the front plate at least was white....

Either way from the values ive seen it looks like its worth having. watch this space!

Must have twin headlamps if its a 2000. Could be a 1300 or a Toledo (square lamps), but they're smaller.

Its not online. Its at a scrapyard called Langfords near shaftesbury. Its a 4 cylinder, it has the bonnet with the scoopy type bit. It definately didnt have the later lights, and its definately not a toledo.

The back end is instantly recognisable as a 2000 from the photos ive seen of them, but the front is.. triciker!

The lights are not like the ones on the model pic ive posted.

I'm sure the 2000 and 2500 are both 6 cylinders!
Does it say Triumph on the rocker cover?

Chris,
they didn't do the 2000 with a four cylinder engine, nor with single lamps.
What you probably have is a Dolomite, which is the same basic shape and style but smaller.

Just got back from Langfords, I looked at this post an hour too late! Seem to remember seeing a light coloured Mk 1 there, maybe that's the one then.

Im 99% sure it was a 4 cylinder. It definately wasnt a dolomite.

Edit:

More searching found this pic

It is one of these. It definately was a 4 cylinder though... 100% certain now having seen the photo of what the 6cyl looks like

maybe a conversion at some point in it's life? or a facctory development car?

all 2000 series triumphs were 6cyl. the model one in the pic is a very early chriome grille mk2.

there was the toledo, single headlamp front end, but two door. all dolomites were 4 door.

if it's defo the 200seires bodyshell and it's a 4 cyl with single front lamps it's an oddball that's not a production model.

might be worth something extra if so.

I did wonder if there was something odd about it. The engine install looks factory, but the air cleaner is stamped as AC. Ill go back this evening for a second look

The instrument panel looks fantastic! Classic smith gauges.

Sure it's not the front-drive 1300 like this? Smaller than a 2000, but with similar styling, single round headlamps and a four-cylinder engine.

ooh. it was one of those! I thought all dolomites had like the sprint so figured it had to be a 2000 of some sort, but never having seen a 2000 in the metal figured they must have just been smaller than id imagined!

Chris, remind me to slap you on the gub the next time I see you for being a dumpling!!
A 1300 is half the size of a 2000!
You had us all excited about finding a secret protoype or something!
By the way, the 1300 was crap, numerous design faults.
I used to do a lot of warranty work on Triumphs; the one you want is a late 2000 Mk1. It was a beautiful car inside and lovely to drive.
The 2.5 Pi version of it was very exciting in it's time but fraught with problems, although if you're really keen you can buy one and sort it out using modern injection, which will transform it.
I had a 2000 with overdrive, a Piper cam, gas-flowed head and triple forties.
It went like stink and was totally reliable. It would be nice to replicate that again, very retro.

hehehe. I do feel quite stupid now. I was thinking my god! they stuck 6 cylinders in these? most go pretty well

The roofline and rear styling are practically identical though!
