Ooo, my first car. 1725cc, G reg in green. LDO 585G. Went like stink at 17yo (me). The addition of a white vinyl roof, some front fogs, a cassette radio and graphic equaliser plus no hubcaps made it quicker still. It died in 1984 through rust I think after I'd sold it a year earlier for £200.texaxile said:
God I must be getting old, brain fade is setting in big time. Spoke about thses to a mate today , he seems convinced they made a 2 door, but for the life of me I can't recall seeing one. I know they did a 2 door avenger, but not a Hunter iirc.
Sunbeam Rapier/Alpine was the 2 door version of the Hunter types.Bought an Alpine with Holbay 1725 engine and twin webbers from the local paper while watching some rallying on the Isle of Man with four mates around 1978 for £70, cos we couldn't find a hire car for the weekend. On the last day we just left it behind the seafront hotels with the key in the ignition, happy days. Engine and webbers alone would be very rare and expensive now probably.

I have fond memories of those Humbers when in simpler times a mistake by my Mum nearly got us all killed. She decided to give the car a wash and a polish, including the interior, with lots of sparkle. This lead to my Dad sliding sideways off the drivers seat, and nearly crashing at the first roundabout we encountered!I can still see the look on the Diamond 'T' wreckers drivers face as he had to stamp on his brakes to avoid us!
I wish to register with the moderators my protest at the old thread being closed. Please kindly reopen it and merge the posts here back into it. It's a bugger not being able to go back and quote stuff. There appears to be no valid or useful reason to close threads at 500 pages. It's arbitrary, stupid, pointless, unnecessary and only contributes to a feeling of disillusionment with a forum which is already clunky and irritating to use, technologically stuck in the 1990s...

I am sorry you feel this way. It would be a great shame to lose your insightful and valid posts, which consistently display the deep subject knowledge and understanding that you have displayed here, so I genuinely hope you can overcome your dislike for the stupid and arbitrary actions of the moderators. If, however, you feel you cannot continue here under such objectionable circumstances, we would of course miss you, but, given time and intensive therapy I'm sure we will learn to live with the profound pain and regret.

What a condescending comment on your behalf.

I've always thought it was a software thing but not sure ...PH is a lot less clunky than it used to be, believe me ...

Nearly 2900 posts in 29 months, "SHIRLEY" this isn't the first thread that's come to the 500 pages?? Copy and paste.
