Spotted: VW Karmann Ghia

If anyone knows Brighton, at the seven dials roundabout. This one was e reg and had 67 on the side (large numbers, competition style), looked like perhaps it has had a more interesting history than the other two karmanns I've seen in Brighton. A quick search on google didn't turn anything up, but perhaps someone on here knows something about it? It also had a maltese cross on the back.
