Thats a tough one. Essex was an American brand sold in the UK between the wars IIRC. I have not heard of Falcon Knight. I remember reading about an Essex restoration a couple of years back and it referred to an owners club, may be worth a google.

To answer my own question, I found the the 'Essex' brand was within the Hudson marque, they produced this Essex as a somewhat cheaper option to the Hudson for a period of about 8 years. Apparently it was a succesful brand.

As for the Falcon Knight, that remains a complete mystery to me thus far, so if anyone has any info on this I would be pleased to hear.

Ah, awake now after this weekend's VSCC Measham, 200 miles in an open car round Wiltshire, start time 9pm, finish time 6am (sic)

Anyway I found this on google http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/wokr/gallery/fk_hist.htm

So part of the Willys-Overland Group - think Jeep!

One clue was the Knight name, as both Daimler (GB) and Minerva (B) used Knight Sleeve Valve engines.

I think sleeve valves are exempt from the no smoke rule on the MOT emission test.

Sleeve Valves are for the committed........

:RTFM: See the link, sleeve valves are like two cylinder liners that move up and down to open the inlet and exhaust valves.

Thanks TVRGAAS, thats put me out of my frustration, I had managed to find info on the Sleeve Valve engine, got to the area where it was said that tolerances are critical to 100,000 tho and that the engines are very smokey. Had visions of those poor s*ds who might be stuck behind one Interesting tho.
