Green Antifreeze/Coolant Suppliers
Discussion
I need to top up the fluorescent green coolant on my old girl.
Rimmer Brothers do sell it but only in multiples of 20 litres for £83

The 5 litre tins of the product (Xpart) are available from a few outlets but none are within an hour or two for me.
Before I buy a party pack of the stuff - can anyone suggest an alternative source?

OAT antifreeze, the new and usually red one attacks yellow metals.
In days gone by and up to quite recently, you'd find the radiator to be largely brass and likewise the thermostat was often brass too. Important that the whole cooling system is considered as although some engines in Morgan 4/4s come from a Ford where OAT is fine, it cannot be used if the radiator is brass.

Because the new stuff eats some parts of old engines apparently, I picked some up in halfords, it's the 2 year one.
I'm guessing the one you got was Halfords Antifreeze & Coolant Concentrate 1 Litre
Looking at the Comma website I'll probably go for this one
Comma G48 Antifreeze and Coolant
I may flush the whole system first rather than just topping it up, though.

Just for future reference: Comma G48 antifreeze uses BASF's GLYSANTIN® G48® formula (hybrid organic green/blue HOAT formula) and isnt suitable for classic car engines (mixed metal). Use a non-organic, silicate based, blue IAT antifreeze such as Blue Star or Bluecol on older engines.

I flushed mine through this year, can't remember what with but I will be checking tonight!
Hi andy,
You may wish to consider '4-Life' antifreeze. It's has a 'custom formula' geared specifically toward (pre-88) classic cars with perfomance engines, and is a substitute for blue IAT antifreeze. It's used by motor museums and classic racing teams alike.
Its deep red in colour, changing to yellow to warn of a head gasket leak. It comes ready mixed so removes the need to purchase deionized water seperately, and provides 10 years of protection. Cost: around £25 for 5L...
