Dunno what they are worth these days but I like that - I had one about 20 years ago for about a year and I loved it. At the time I was hard up and couldn't afford the fuel : (

No help I know but great cars I reckon!

They all seem to go for pennies, no idea why, very smart looking V8.

The P6 was constructed with non-stressed panels around a base structure, a bit like the Citroen DS. Which means you can cheaply repanel one with a completely rotten frame. They are notorious for looking fine from the outside whilst being shot to bits inside. Proceed with extreme caution. But if you get a sound one they are terrific cars.

not necessarily so cheap but perhaps low or well priced, cars at that price tend to be neither fish nor foul for most general buyers

it depends on the state of the chassis and perhaps gearbox and inboard rear brakes, it could be overpriced or underpriced

power steering is good to have on them or you're playing the maracas with the steering wheel

I had the same model (with the manual box) about 8 years ago after fancying them since 1978, they're lovely to drive and be in, a bit slab sided and soft suspension but they'll keep with sportscars of the period, and indeed were faster than some, and with modern traffic

when the P6 were introduced it was really something special for the time with advanced safety features and the styling to me is like the Citroen DS, dateless, hence you see both cars in films that were set in the future

surprisingly narrow, which can be very useful, so a four seater rather than 5

the poor relation to the P5 with plastic wood but still with Rover quality, doors that shut just by the slightest push (which most passengers have to be told about), remote geared quarterlight opening at front, sprung boot lid which again doesn't need slamming just press

all the panels including the roof hang on the chassis so are easy to replace individually, the doors can just be took off and put back on without further alignment

then off course there's the burble of the RV8 so you enjoy going at even low speeds but drop a gear and floor it and you're off

silly (trick) reserve petrol tank valve that many forget to operate so it seizes, 17 mpg around town 28 mpg on a good run (depending on driver), 64 litre tank IIRC so you'll collect all the reward tokens you can

lovely saloon, if I had the chance I'd have one again

Picked up a 1969 red auto v8 one of these for £1600 a couple of weeks ago and have done 316 miles in it since as it is now my daily driver!

The interior is a nice place to be and the seats are comfy, the heater seems to have reasonable puff and even the single speaker has enough volume to keep me entertained (although with the v8 burble it's not always needed).

I'm returning about 20mpg at the moment, but I can't say that I'm driving it gently!

I've had 2, a 2000 TC and 3500 auto, fab cars.

I sold the auto in 1997 to raise a deposit for mt first house, good working order, no faults, not rusty, sold for £950, was the best I could get, gave it away...

Lovely cars when in good fettle, I've had three, a 2000TC and two V8 autos, they waft along very nicely and with power steering are a breeze around town. They're still relatively cheap because of the high survival rate, although good early manual V8s aren't so easily found. Several post- 73 ones have been sacrificed to keep tax exempt ones on the road, as have quite a lot of 2200s (built from late 73 to early 77).

Fake manual V8s are a problem though, there are several out there. The width of the transmission tunnel is something to look for as manuals and V8s are different. There are a lot of bitsa P6s out there but find a good 'un and you can't go wrong.

Both of my V8 autos were early 70s company cars when new, this was quite common with middle aged executives of the day treating themselves to a top of the range model under their company names, then passing them on to their wives and family members a year or two later, resulting in a good number of survivors from this period on J, K and L plates with just a few owners on the V5C. Both of mine were nicely specced up from new, although one of them didn't have power steering for some reason (my arms ached for the first few weeks of ownership!).

Sold my Monza Red one a year ago and miss it a lot, despite replacing it with a P5B Coupe!

Obviously we're all friends here (!) but I actually felt the gorge rise in my throat at this comment. I think the P6 is an utter monstrosity, desperately un-sexy and profoundly ugly inside. The Cyril Smith of cars if you will.

However, we can't all think the same or the world would be a very dull place (and Rover would have gone out of business 40 years ago wink)

nothing wrong with different opinions (or debate)

I'm sure you know your P6s but I can hardly believe you find them ugly but each to their own

I remember the first time I heard someone say that the smart (City-Coupe) was ugly I was surprised but I'm often very surprised at the people some say are good looking or sexy and I can't see it

I think the P6 is quite handsome, I'm not so keen on the linear style dash but the interiors seem ok to me

They're certainly lovely looking cars. I don't know what they normally go for - but that is less than I was expecting, if that means anything.

Part of the look of the P6 for me was the wheels. I love the style of the original hubcaps. To my eyes the Jaguar XJ40 wheels fitted to this one look a bit big, but they do look very sporting.

The inside of the door bottoms being blue looks possibly like some anti rust paint. Needs looking at closely . Lot of classic for the money though.

Looking at it again, they're not Jag wheels - possibly from the Rover Vitesse?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

wink

The DS is often referred to as being 'jolie laide' meaning ugly-beautiful. I can understand that in all honesty. The rear of the DS has always left me cold, just doesn't match the sensational front. I do think the P6 is a bit laide-laide though!

When the P6 first came out my father had a new 2000 and then later traded it for the 3500.

As a kid at the time I can recall how futuristic it looked compared with the P5 which Dad had owned before them. As a big car it had a deceptively small interior and in particular a very small boot, both of Dad's P6s had the spare wheel mounted on the boot lid. I think it was quite a common option at the time, anyone still got their spare mounted that way?

When I look at the P6 now it somehow seems so dated compared to when I first set eyes on it. I do agree with the earlier posts, great value and very usable classics.
