Looking for an everyday runaround for using in london, want somethign with a bit of poke, and fun for winter driving on wet roads in the country too.
Quattro fits the bill.
Car will do 5k a year - winter miles only.
Won't be garaged
So what do I spend? Or is this a bad plan and I should go buy a ford probe to ruin instead?
Cheers!

Hiya,
read my remarks on "What Car" on this forum, bit about Audis.
If you want to buy a performance car for winter use, you're not going to beat a Quattro.
Don't know how much you want to spend but you can buy a cracker for 6 or 7 grand if you shop wisely.
If you want a 20 valve you might have to pay a bit more, it just depends on how nice you want it to be.
Try and get an original, untarted car, it's a much better investment.
Best of luck.
I ought to be on a commission from this place
Edited to add that 140,000 shouldn't be problem on one of these - just run in! Probably best to get it checked over though, YMMV etc. The 100 S4 they have there is also worth a look I should think.

How true! Every time i go on their site i get a tiny bit closer to being silly in relation to this
Less than a grand fitted I should think... but on a car that needs a new turbo you can usually bet the cylinder head needs replacing too, and they are NLA. To be honest a WR engined quattro needs it's engine rebuilding once it's done over 100,000 miles. All the rest of the car is bomb-proof however, assuming the electrics haven't been raped.
Having said that I don't know what the mileage is on this car and I dare not check lest I weaken.
Later Quattros (MB and RR engine codes) seem to have been fitted with engines with a practically unlimited life... I reckon mine has done about 175,000 miles now. Shame it was clocked at some point.

Has this one been solved yet? I ask because I was talking to the friend who bought mine, and it's for sale. In perfect nick - only 1,000 miles since I sold it. Owner is head of the best Audi franchise in Britain, so as you can imagine he's got the car in exceptional condition - at one time Audi wanted it for their museum.
He's selling it to pay for an XK120 he's just bought.
Mleage 70,000 approx, but LHD. All our family loved it - one of the best cars we've ever had.
