Classic Motor Show

Get yourself to the NEC this weekend - you'll be glad you did

This weekend the NEC in Birmingham plays host to the Classic Motor Show. The even spans several halls and is attended by many of the classic cars clubs and some clubs representing cars that are becoming classics such as the earlier MR2s and Mitsubishi Lancers.

Alongside those cars you'll see ancient cars from names long since departed as well as the occasional new car which seems to have slipped in including the Noble M14.

There are old trucks, military vehicles, plenty of American cars and a huge trade area with everything from brake lines to models cars. With such diversity and covering such a wide area, it's pretty much guaranteed to have something of interest to all petrolheads.

Well worth a trip! Full details at www.classiccarshow.co.uk

I actually asked my dad to buy one of these

in 1977. He did choose the Allegro 1.3. In bordeaux red.
Isn't British car history great . . .

That's 60 pounds 99 for sure . . .

Edit to say he started off with a fine dark green Wolseley 16/60 - all leather and wood inside . . .

"Let's call this car Princess, yep that's a bloody fine name"

Well, I'll stop now and have a nice sleep over it - continental time, so that's plus one hour.

That's right. Nigel Hulme is selling these Daytona Coupe-like cars (come from South Africa, via the same route as the Noble).

The other cars on that Hawk stand at the show were both alloy bodied 289s - a 'slabside' and an 'FIA' model.

I never knew there was an xjs police car. I would have thought being made to squeeze into the back of one of those for the ride to the police station would put the most hardened criminals right

No it wasn't Ted!!
I remember going down south in the early eighties and one of the midlands forces had one of these on the M1.
I couldn't believe it!
2 door, kiddy seats in the back, no boot space for equipment, 10 mpg, lethal handling in the wet; what plonker made the decision to utilise a car like that as a police vehicle!!!
Staggering!!

The Coupé`s don`t have an alloy body, the road versions are fibreglass,(and believe me, as smooth as it gets....emphasis on the 'glass'!)but there was talk of a carbonfibre shell for competition, although I don`t think it came to anything.Yet.
Oh, those Kirkham/Hawk Cobras are SOOOOO good.
