Where's the Withnail and I Jag Mk 2?
Discussion
First time I've watched Withnail and I sober and wondered if the grey Mk2 still exists. There are some characterful scars on the monocled wonder back in 1987. It may be a show queen now, but how wonderful if it still runs in its film state.
Registration 405 SBH.
Might as well start with a favourite line too: "We've gone on holiday by mistake"

My dad was Art Director on the film and as such was in charge of all the vehicles.
The normal thing that happens at the end of a film os that the vehicles that have been bought for the film are sold off to the highest bidder.
At the point the film was made it was the end of a low budget British film that no one expected to do very well, and it took about 10 years before it started to get cult status.
Get in the back of the van.

What a shame - that would be a very sought after resto project now. It may still exist on a different number plate, but unlikely - back then you could buy any number of ropey Mark 11 Jaguars for peanuts - a mechanic I knew sold a rough but running 2.4 for £150 in 1985."Withnail and I", Jaguar by henryharris, on Flickr

Seems as though Monty's Rolls enjoyed better fortunes. This link has a picture of it at Goodwood in 2011.

Not sure about Mk2s being scrapped late 80s. I remember them being quite sought after during the boom. Having said that, the 2.4s always seemed to have a bad press.
Don't threaten me with a dead fish.

austin,
was the DB4 part of the filming, or did it just happen to be in the background when shooting took place??
I don't know the film well enough to remember cars in the background!was the DB4 part of the filming, or did it just happen to be in the background when shooting took place??
It would have been there on purpose though I am sure. If you explain which bit I'll point dad at this thread and he may post or tell me.
Just searched for a screen shot and found this:

There must 20,000 sheep up there on those volcanoes. We've got a plate full of carrots.
Hi to all piston heads , I can clear up some of the mystery about this as I bought it , from Steven hill , ( Hill house hire) it was advertised in practical classics , I restored it to a useable car as it had a broken steering wheel and a headlight was missing , although it had a long mot , at the time I had not seen withnail&l .at the time an mr hill told me it had been used in filming , but was vague . I was parked in a supermarket car park and someone put a note on the screen asking if I would like to well the number plate , which I did £450 , he had a jaguar xj6 at the time and owned a lingerie co in Rayleigh at the time ,I only have 1 pic of her after the new no was issued , I took it to a car show in genk Belgium ,and sold it on the way home to a friend in France , all I have left is the plastic pipe and red plastic valve which was in the back ,Used in the film I suspect . ,it drove very well and had twin S U s fitted , not solex , happy days 😊
