I bought one of these back in the 90's after parking the wife's Delta Turbo on it's roof :-(
In my opinion it was tremendously underrated, it was fast, practical and elegant. Sometimes I regret letting it go especially as it was the last Lancia I ever owned or hankered after.

Very nice to see one of these rare HPE vx surviving today.
I always wanted one but ended up with a Coupe Vx after previously having a HPE 1600 t/c then a Coupe 1300 twin cam then briefly and HPE 2.0ie - which was a terrific car but the super charger on the Vx model really transformed how well they went.
They were very well designed these cars, shame they didnt like the uk rain and salt on the roads. Compared to what was available from Ford, GM, VW etc these cars were very advanced.

I hankered after an HPE Volumex, and still do. There was a smart red one for sale in Scotland a little while ago. I nearly went to see the white one, but don't really like the colour. The HPE is one of the best looking small estate cars that I know of. The ordinary two litre Beta is quite lively, so the supercharged one should be fun.
The later cars are built of decent steel, and can survive well if looked after.

I had an HPE VX and always lusted after a series two Spyder or Monte Carlo. The supercharger installation was unusual in that it added very little horsepower (135bhp from 125bhp), but a massive amount of low easy torque. It wasnt what Id expected at all - more like driving a whiney 4.0l HPE.

that looks very nice indeed, it is for sale or did you buy it?
an early S1 HPE is on ebay at the moment the body looks very good for an early car, my first Lancia was a red 78 S1 hPE like this blue one, had the same funny mustard seats, the later cars were much improved inside.

As for the Volumex, it's really rather splendid to drive, and feels both modernish and old. The handling is sharp, the brakes are powerful, and the supercharged two litre engine delivers urge all across the rev range and excellent overtaking power. Power steering and a well set up five speed gearbox make the car pleasant in town and as a cruiser as well as when flinging it about on B roads. I am getting about 22 to 25 mpg ish.
Cosmetically, the car is good but not perfect, with minor rust showing at the sunroof and at a few other places here and there, but underneath the car is sound, and the wings are good. I have also acquired an HPE IE as a donor car, although Betaboyz say that the IE is even rarer than the Volumex, so maybe I will save that car if it can be saved. Initially, however. the IE is going to be looted for some interior trim and for a headlight, and its passenger seat will become the driver's seat in the Volumex, which has the usual wear to the elegant but delicate Zegna cloth on the right hand bolster.
