This is causing me some grief!! I own a converted MGB 3.5V8 automatic . It had been standing for 3 years and started up with new plugs and quickly overheated. New theromostat cured that and runs well. However, there is a waterleak from under the bulkhead area on the driverside and I cant see where on earth it is from. I can hear a hissing when engine is turned off and the jet of water seems to be coming from above the startermotor area close to the gearbox. Could it be the heater matrix, the inside of the car is dry. Any suggestions? Cheers folks

if from rear of engine...have you retained the original heater box? if so, take a close look at flow/return pipes to/from heater. nip up jubilees on hoses and check heater box metal pipes for fracture. try posting here for some of the b' v8 guys...http://www.v8register.net/

op, will read your post properly next time...if from near starter motor take close look at core plugs just above.

+ have you retained the original heater water valve? if so, these all fail [originally dripping onto b's distributor].

as V8250s put

very unusual for martix to leak so more likely hoses need need nipping up or if you bought new rubber hoses in the last 5 years or so it could be them

you should have grommets around the heaterbox pipe appetutes to secure matrix pipes from moving

if the coolant hasn't been changed then even if the anti-freeze part of it is ok the conditioning part might not be, some coolant are changed at 18/24 months

for heater tap lack of movement for 3 years wont help it but it could just be the gasket, if you have to geat a new heater tap get it from Ashton Hinton

cooling is very important especially with a bigger engine in a smaller car but its full system full servicing and maintenance is often fallen short on

regular use of the car and regular servicing and maintenance is the best way to keep the whole car running well including the cooling system - oil is another engine cooling aspect
