1970 era Beetles

I'm going to view a 1970 VW Beetle tomorrow evening for a friend, does anyone on here know anything other than the normal to look out for.

My list is

Floor
Inner wings
End float on the crank
Oily bits
Brakes
Bulkheads

Is there anything that i need to remove to inspect the un-expected.

Heater channels. Look inside where the heat outlets are near the seats.
Heat exchangers and cables - see if the heater works hot and cold.
Usual stuff like steering box and ball joints.
Don't worry too much about mechanicals. Its the body/structure that matters. Good Luck!

Not a VW expert, my only experience is with a well knackered VW Variant. I think you'll find the heater ducts are part of the body and fed by flexible tubes from air ducts around the exhausts. From distant memory that exhaust system was horrendously expensive (but lasted) because of the need to avoid gassing the occupants!

With a car of that vintage I think that the better it looks the more suspicious you should be as the shiny stuff is probably covering nasty stuff.

It's nice to see one with all the tinware in place, usually a bad sign if bits are missing or badly fitted. After a decent drive (carefully) grab hold of the dipstick, if it's too hot to hold then the engine is over heating.
