Facet or pattern?

Hi all, not sure if this fits in this section but here goes. On my Frogeye I have a Facet solid-state pump (the little cube style) that I think is failing. There seems to be exact copy unbadged versions around that are maybe £10 less, as they appear to be identical anyone know if they are made by Facet or is it a false economy for the sake of a tenner? I think my existing one is over 15 years old.

are you sure it is the pump not a bit of muck in a filter or carb bowl or carb seat and needle, fuel line breaking down inside - (or of course numerous other things)

personally I don't think (depending on where the pump is sited) that you necessarily need a cube type pump and the generic electronic versions of the old style pumps can be used - others totally disagree with me

The reason I suspect the pump is it used to make a pretty distinctive knocking sound from switching on the ignition, once pressure was up it would then change sound noticeably to a much faster and softer knowcking sound. It’s not doing this anymore, If I leave the car for a couple of weeks there is no fuel getting to the carb (disconnected the pipe at the carb and/or after the filter king) If I pull the fuel hose off before the Filter king after a few seconds fuel will pump from the pipe (so previously it wasn’t get up to the Filter king) push it back onto the Filer King and then a few seconds later it fills the carb bowls and she starts and runs fine for a long run. Another couple of weeks and I have the same problem, all the time I never get the same sound I used to get from the pump.

if you have the facet prefilter fitted (the one that screws in to it) fit a new one.

the prefilter on my mini blocks every six months or so, the pump gets noisey and it conks out.

Thanks, one of the first things I did was replace the filter!

if you wanted to, unless you have a seriously supped-up or different engine you could do away with the knocking cube pump (and filter king regulator) by swapping to a standard style electronic pump, about £50 and 9 gallons an hour, 2.5-3 psi

only a suggestion and info for others as an alternative to the noisier cube type which generally need to be suspended by a couple of exhaust bobbins to stop excessive vibration and noise

I’m running a 1330cc A series with a single 45DCOE, the Facet cubes are only low pressure anyway and the Filter king is there on recommendation of my rolling road man to keep the pressure regulated to avoid overcoming the float in the Weber. I think I ‘m only using about 3psi from memory and you are correct, I do have it mounted on 2 mini exhaust bobbins but it still knocks audibly!
Maybe I’ll have a little gander at other options but the pattern cube pumps are less than £30 so I think I’ll end up giving one of those a go. Thanks for your help though.

I've plumped for a genuine Facet replacement of the cube style pump, its a black plastic rounder style that is supposed to be quieter, it was only £30 delivered so will see how we go.

I didn't realise those pumps were that inexpensive, I'm sure when I had one I paid more (but that's what happens with me), it's why I know they can be very noisy, I swapped to the odd looking brass boiler type cylindrical one which got rid of the vibration and noise

I think it would be fair to say your Frogeye isn't as standard

so your needs are different to a 948cc on little twin SUs
