E-type / Classic car Insurance

Just a quick one(first ever post!),

I was hoping somebody on here might be able to advise some good (and hopefully cheap!)classic car insurance companies / policies.

My father is in the process of buying an S2 E-type (which luckily I will get to drive) and must find some decent cover - preferably for a multi-car policy (as several other classics we hope to get on the road in time for the summer!) with a couple of named drivers on the policy.

Does anyone here have any advice or experience they could share?

I had my MGB insured with Heritage - they were bloody cheap and lovely people to deal with.

TVR is currently insured through Mannings - fantastic service and very accommodating.

I have my tuned MGB with Performance Direct (underwritten by Chaucer) £111 pa
and TVR S2 with Footman James £132 pa
both with agreed valuations and limited mileages.
Both are knowledgeable and helpfull, thank fully I have not needed to claim so cant comment on that part of service.
It helped with both to be a member of a car owners club.

I have three classics and two moderns on one policy with Footman James, with two named drivers. Have had no problems, including when making a write-off claim a few years ago. Moderns on a classic policy do not accrue NCB is the only downside (and are priced as moderns obviously).

Footman James are the agreed insurer for the JDC, but thst doesn't mean they'll give you the best quote. Try Peter Best and a few others too - it isn't any different to modern car insurance.

My Series 3 OTS E Type cost £95 per year with a mileage of 3000 Miles.

Peter Best for me. I've insured everything from an X308 XJR to a SIII Land Rover and it's always cost less then £150, my dad goes on as a named driver for free.

Multi car policies work out expensive for me (even on 4 cars) and usually place unusual restrictions on the classics (a friend found this the other week, I haven't tried for a year or so), but maybe you'll have luck with multi-car multi driver?

I have unlimited mileage and business use across the whole fleet. Cost is c£1k, but I have a substantial claim from a few years ago, a modified group 17 Saab (as a modern) and a £20k Bristol on the policy so I think that's not too bad. Cheapest multi-car policy I could find by some margin.

I will have to get back onto Footman James, they did not mention a multi car policy, plus they quoted £200 for the MGB, seems you have to keep watching these insurance folk closely!

Thanks everyone - some really intersting points raised and I'm currently getting some good quotes from a number of those above.

Really can't figure out this whole insurance game - the variations in quotes between some companies, is shocking!

Will post once I get a confirm on the final quote.
