Spotted, Wartburg Knight in a green/beige colour, parked along with one or two Trabants, only a few miles from my place.
From memory the Wartburg was the up market heavy smoking two stroke from the eastern block. My old man had one on a 24 hour demo back in the early 70's, after a days drive in the country we all had a nice aroma of petrol/oil mix. I think we were all glad to see the back of it, the dealer colected the car the next, end of...

Try geting a dealer today to give a days test drive with a full tank of fuel ??

Girl at school's dad had one - in orange - same period - mid 70s. It was very noisy and we all laughed at it. But not as much as the kid whose dad had a Moskvich.

A nice memory but just curiosity value now for both I guess ... ie I'd never want to own one.

This grings hack a memory. About 15 years or so ago I used to deliver to a house that had a few of these on the drive. At least one of them was more "modern" looking, with plastic grilles and maybe bumpers.

There's a Red and White one which compete's a lot on northern historic rallies, driven with 'gusto' it sounds brilliant and spits flames out the back

My neighbour in South Wales had one the same yellow colour back in the later seventies. It was replaced with a DAF 66... Cool.

State of the art here in Bulgaria, in fact they are ten a penny, along with Mk 1 Lada Rivas (single round headlamps), trabbies, Moskviches and Zil limos.

Zil limos? Ten a penny? Really? I thought they were always rare due to being completely handbuilt- and would there have been any in Bulgaria, or would Communist high-ups have had Chaikas instead?
