Classic car insurers

It's been a fair few years since I've run a classic and I'm picking up a Mk1 Escort on Saturday then making the epic 190+ plus mile journey home - can't wait!!! However I'll need to insure her first, so who are the best insurers these days?

May ring Admiral tomorrow to see how comical their figure may be to add her to a multi-car policy too...

Yep, very good. If they would buy some computers instead of doing whatever it is they have to do to retrieve my files when I phone them up they would be perfect, but it's a very small complaint in context of the excellent service they provide. I also use SureTerm Direct.

normally I'd say for new business to go to the web site and fill in the box at the bottom and let them ring you back at their expense but the OP seems to be running things close unuse to the ways of old

'customer service' phone bureaus open all hours with computers that refuse to recognise your car because of programing input errors have to be paid for, that adds to your policy premium

they're probably very busy soaking up business that other companines may have lost the right to sell because of abuse of policy requirements - slippage is it

Also RH Insurance. Got my Manta with them and a mate has his Ferrari with them. Both very reasonable price wise.

That will be comical. Peter Best quote was about £100 for my car. Adding to it my multi-car for Admiral was over £400 They don't want the classic car business, fair enough, but then they bother to put ads in the classic car mags

+1 For Heritage,have just insured Porsche 356 with them and had an Alfa with them last year.

Agreed value available with 6 photos and all done easily.

Excellent firm RH- I have been with them for several years (and cars). Also they don't make you go through all the valuation and photos palaver unless you have something out of the ordinary.

Cheers guys! Went with PB in the end! Can't wait to collect her tomorrow... 3.5 hour direct train journey there... god knows how long to drive home!!!

I used hagerty in the past as has a friend always found them very good to deal with and competitively priced.

Well what a bloody day to collect a car!!! 200 miles in a snow-blizzard, the M6 getting closed, and me being punted off it to find my way home through the snow-covered backroads on a set of trackday tyres... lovely.

2.0 Pinto with a single 45. Just got the report back from my local specialist...

starter motor not engaging all the time
power leads to starter motor need replacing
clocks not working correctly
pass side indicators working intermittent
rear shocks need replacing
sump plug leaking
camshaft oil seal needs replacing
pass-side front calliper sticking
pass-side front wheel bearing needs replacing
fuel lines damaged

Not too bad really! There's been a few messy repairs underneath over the years but she's pretty solid so I reckon she'll be staying for a while!
