I give you the Maserati 450S, or Tipo 54:

Is that not quite simply the most fabulous 4-wheeled vehicle you have ever set eyes on? Plenty more picture, including the (not-at-all) oily bits, here:

Edit: Pic changed. I'm not sure this does it as much justice but is at least minus the much-derided pods on the front!

IMHO no nono

The exhausts and front air intakes look like an afterthought and the screen is much to vertical.

Each to his own though, boring old world if we all thought the same smile

Nothing a bottle of whiskey and an angle grinder couldn't sort out wink

That is knee-tremblingly beautiful, and being a 450 it would shift too.. cloud9

That just about sums up my senitments. Oh, and it looks like it's been stretched, too thin looking in the middle, screws the proportions!

I saw a TV show a while ago which featured Maserati in this particular episode. There were a few cars featured (Ghibli - incredible, 3500GT, Bora etc) but the stand out was some Italian guy gunning his 450s down the public roads - amazing sounds and vision. I think the show was probably Classic Marques...

Further to that i've always lusted after the 450s Le Mans Coupe. I've often though that if money were no object i'd commission a replica of one of these but built to Costins original drawing as apparently Zagato (?) did a bit of a botch on the aerodynamics - it'd be interesting to see just what that would be capable of if developed properly.

Sorry, but the earth didn't move. It seems as though someone desgned a car and added so many bits, like the air intakes and the screen, as an afterthought. Gimme a Birdcage any day over that. Or an XKSS wink

I must say, the front air intakes aren't great but I'm not sure those are standard - was tricky finding a decent shot to put in the OP. Otherwise though, I'm still saving up!

@ang on there TVR. Have you airbrushed out the machine gun or rocket pods? Looks a differnet car without them.

Sorry, confused am I Hanging or Banging on... No airbrushing by me, alll taken form the same page as the OP referenced.

I will add my observation about the Ferrari shown as "superior" to this Maser... it amused me to notice even with the front wings sculpted so deeply and a sizeable cutout just behind, that the exhaust is still hung somewhat randomly along the sides smile

Well, It's not as if the OP forbade us from looking around, yeah?

Maserati 300s for me. A bit neater, a bit purer. A bit more wibble.

Yes - to a point; however, it was deCadenet's piece on the TV which sold the car to me, and I simply had trouble finding a decent static picture to use!
