Importing old cars in from Europe

If I bought an old car from Europe (talking EU states) what's the procedure regards getting it on the road nowadays. Is it just MOT and register it? Or SVA/IVA process too?
Would be looking at something that was late 50's to early 70's to avoid the VED.

Couldn't find any reference to import old stuff though, they only seem to cover upto 10 years old though

When I moved from Belgium to UK with my '88 E34, I needed MOT, Tax and Insurance. That was it.

MOT and Insurance done on the VIN, then Tax. easy.
