An interesting/special car for 10k?
Discussion
Hi, i'm hoping I can finally get some inspiration for my next purchase in a month or so!
After something a bit different, and preferably a bit special!
Anything goes, I don't want anything to old, and it must be a reasonably good looking car. My ideas so far:
- Mercedes 180E 2.5 cosworth
- Any Ginetta
- Lotus Cortina (out of budget?)
Can anyone help with ideas? Or make recommendations for interesting cars to look for such as Alfa's or similar?
TIA!

There was a G33 advertised recently for £10k, needed a little bit of tidying, but TBH it will probably go up in value. G33 is great fun, good looking, cheap to run, just dont expect it to be water tight if its pissing down.
There are some great Ginetta, I like G15, G21, G33, Newish G20 all of those should be in your price range.

It's a bit of an old man's car - because I am 'old' - but you get a lot of car for your money with what was the Mercedes SL of the nineties. They go from three litres to six and should cost under £10k; they were £6k but rising. They are convertible but come with a hard top. Very reliable - but old!
PS: I tried to buy a Lotus Cortina Mk1 years ago but was outbid by Chris Barber of jazz fame. When I saw him a few years later, he told me he wished I'd got it, it had cost him a fortune because it was so rotten. Beware!

On the subject of Mercs for your budget, you couldn't really go wrong with this, plus a years warrenty too.
Or a decent XJS
4.0/4.3 TVR Griffith if you think these are a 'bit old man'

Thanks for all the replies.
All really good suggestions, which have seen me search through about 3 hours-worth of classifieds! I looked at the TVR chimeara and decided I quite like the Cerbera 'speed' six' (as I dont really want a convertible) so thats another on my list.
Caterhams are cool but are not practical enough
Old 'big' mercs are lovely cars but not really my cup of tea to own
Anyway, potentials at the moment:
-Mercedes 190 2.5 16v (thought it had something to do with cosworth?)
-TVR cerbera 4.0
Love the old Alfa Romeo '105 series' cars, out of price range though for a good one?
Any more suggestions? Especially old Alfa's??
