Mystery petrol tank

Can anyone identify which vehicle this petrol tank could have come from? Its 68cms by 24cms and as you can see has the George VI crest on it. Its finished in a sort of light bluey grey and has a red "index" number on it. I'm assuming its military but any help would be appreciated.

That was my initial thought as well. I was hoping someone may be able to identify the exact vehicle. I unearthed it whilst helping to clear a barn out and thought someone might have a use for it - don't really want to just bin it.

I would have thought that the size of that tank would give you about 15 mins running time in your boat !! ( assuming you are talking about the Huntsman )

Main thoughts are that it's probably from a military generator of some kind.
