They were far from being a brick, they were quite aerodynamic for the era, much more so than people think, although the Carlsson kit didn't do them any favours looks wise.

SAAB's aviation history may have something to do with it, but that hugely curved windscreen wasn't there for nothing and contributed to 900s being the most stable cars in a crosswind that I've ever driven. I used to cross the Orwell Bridge near Ipswich daily, and in a high wind mine would track arrow-straight, allowing far better progress to be made than the average speed camera zone would now allow.

Agree that the Carlsson kit is excessive, though. The best visual balance was the post-facelift (87-on) Aero kit.

Agree with that statement, it was a revelation in that regard for the era, when I owned my first C900 in the mid 90's.

They’re maybe not great with the original front set up and cart suspension at the back but in the US of course you mostly go straight …

Mine was tricked out with Total Control Products stuff at the front and decent (stiffer) cart horse stuff at the back and a bloody great X welded in joining all four corners together - it was great - more or less zero body roll through the corners but it was bloody hard and along with the low profiles I fitted on the 17” wheels (in hindsight an error - always go 15” Torq Thrusts no matter what) - it was on some roads undriveable …

Spotted yesterday, Fiat 600.

Not a big seller in the UK, but plenty around in Italy. Also built in Spain (as a SEAT) and as a Zastava in Eastern Europe. Also put "Middle Barton Garage" into YouTube for some lairy, bootlid-propped-open Abarth action.

According to my parts book the front seat height adjuster is indeed Germany / Taunus only, not GB / Cortina.
The lucky Germans also had the availability of a factory fitted sliding sun roof on these cars, we had to wait for the Mk4 to get that option.

Seat height adjustors were available for GB cars. AFAIK they were an optional extra only for GXLs.
Here are the instructions for use in a GB owners handbook.



And here is one i removed from a GXL i scrapped.

My daughters both like ‘60s US stuff, and send spots for me to identify. I know next to nothing about these “Shot-boxes” as my Dad called them. What are these?
(I hazarded Galaxie and some kind of Plymouth)

Amazing they dropped it for the later 2000E then, if it was GXL only?
I know my P-reg 2.0GT 2-door didn't have a height adjustable seat on those GT high backs.

I can, my Mum bought one as her first car in 1967!

The one in those photos is an early one with those suicide doors, and looking at the exhaust the engine may have had some tweaks. Not a bad thing as progress is quite leisurely.
