I drove one in period and thought it was a very special car but my datum point was my 875/998cc Imp.

However I think it is/was much-overlooked and has aged well…

nice one, I drove those as well back in the days, felt special, the sound when flattening the gas pedal was lovely, with or better without standard filter :-) had 3 over time back then, a red a black and a grey example.

I posted 6 images yes, 5 were of cars I walked past all parked v close in the same street & returned to photograph & comment about and the 6th was an internet stock photo to use up space in the photo montage, barely relevant.

Well if you'd told us that, it would have saved us all some time! hehe

I prefer the later GTS 828, less gawky , less ‘sharky’ than the original, and although the 996 was. Considered the least desirable 911, I think I prefer it to the overweight lardy looking thing it’s now become , the whole point of the 911was that it was small and chuckable, now it’s just too big.

In my first post on this topic, I alluded to this, with reference to the 2CV. It wasn’t the influence of others, but more the realisation, its not how fast you get there, more how enjoyable it is, getting there.

I don’t get the love for retro designs, Fiat 500/Jaguar S Type/MG ZT. However, in the case of the latter, having read owners personal experiences, I would consider one as they seem far more capable than one might think.

In a similar vein to above, I dislike American retro muscle cars, with the exception of the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, which I now view in the same light as the Bini, a reinterpretation, not an attempt at recreation.

Finally, the Honda Cub, as youngun, WTF would anyone, want ride something as slow as this, I just didn’t get it. Now, I view as the perfect machine for local travel.

Less is more!

When I was a Sixties teenager some cars made me drool - DB5/6 , E -Type, Elan, Duetto , Gordon Keeble and most Ferraris. All were rare - maybe one Elan spot a month and a Ferrari once a year .GK once only and that was on a school trip to London.

Fast forward (with what seems indecent speed ) to being a retired old fart and stuff changes. The Elan , G-K , Duetto and most 60s Ferraris still are the beat my heart skipped but Astons (despite it being my surname ) and E-Types ? Get out of here... . DBs were an increasingly tiresome variation on the same theme and remain so to this day (sorry ) and E-Types look absurd. Comically priapic bonnet, over- upright screen and comically narrow track all undermine the undeniably sexy faired in lights(on early cars ) , rear window and rear haunches so desirable they triggered thoughts which have no place on a car forum .

And the car which I thought was too functional , cold and staid ? Yup , the 911 . And now I think that up to when they stuck a spoiler on the boot they were achingly perfect , from the lovely front wings and perfect three quarters view to the oh so sexy Fuchs wheels .I saw a blue 1970 reg 911S the other day and God it was lovely . But in 1971 I'd have ignored a 911 to get a better view of even a V12 E -Type or an Espada . I've seen the light - or licht , perhaps ?
