What is your dream classic?

I was never ambitious but always loved the Elan Plus 2, so I bought a basket case and after 5 years hard work ended up with this.
Put 15k miles on that car and loved it, only to sell it when I reached the stage when it was fully developed and could not really be made any better.
Missed it so much that I'm on to my second restoration of a Plus 2. I just love them even though many do not - such an underrated car and delightful to drive
That looks lovely. Always been a fan of these.Put 15k miles on that car and loved it, only to sell it when I reached the stage when it was fully developed and could not really be made any better.

Strada Abarth without a doubt.
Great shout. I’d also like a 131 Sport, 131 1600cc Supermirafiori l, Fiat 132 2000 or MK4/5 Cortina 2.3 Ghia / S. However, even if you could find a decent one, they are out of my price range.
this week also one, pfff still makes me look and think, wow... it looks maybe like a brick? but boy there is so much want, although maybe I do not want to be seen in it hahah, but so cool and ow, a real one very expensive.
ah it was a gr4 and 260k but the most expensive a blue one 987k? not normal.
but... some very good replica's are also not bad, those are between 20-80k
a real rally version is not really 'nice' inside, so personally I then would choose a more road version.

I'm a little young compared to their usual fans (born in the 80s when these were already 'old' cars) ... but a Jaguar E-type FHC S1 would be pretty much my ideal classic. I've lusted after them since I was a child, but unlikely to ever have the sort of disposable cash to drop on something like that.
If I ever got one, I would drive it enthusiastically at every opportunity. Bugger keeping it locked away in a heated garage - cars are for driving!
Back in 1982, leaving uni for the last time, my best friend and I made a pact...the first one to become a millionaire would buy the other the car of their dreams. He chose a (current at the time) BMW 323 (e21) and I chose an e-type. He laughed and said " If that's all you want, I'll buy you three". 20 years later we met, neither of us had made it as a millionaire but I bought him a wreck of a 1982 323 as a joke ( I think it cost me £200). I don't know how close he got to becoming a millionaire, but I never got my e-type.If I ever got one, I would drive it enthusiastically at every opportunity. I'm not the first person on this thread to say Alfa Romeo GT junior, not there yet, but in the process of buying this:
Lightly Alfaholics touched GT junior with an uprated 2.0 engine, LSD and Alfaholics suspension/brakes. I'm assured the bodywork is brilliant, but will see over the coming week or two
I'm hoping it will sit alongside my s2000 as my forever garage, as I'm going to have to move the 3.0 GTV on at some point....

I should have read the full OP instead of just the header - I was thinking of a full time classic, which would have been a Porsche 928. They say don't meet your heroes, and despite that I'd love to drive a 300SL Gullwing, but the £100,000 limit excludes that, and the McLaren F1 which would have been another top choice.
So as a car to drive for the day, and under £100,000, I think it would have to be a Lotus Elan Sprint, as I get the feeling it's a hero that wouldn’t disappoint.

Would probably if funds allowed have the 131 Sport in orange in a reasonable condition (over here in Spain its possible to source relatively corrosion free examples) albeit for a premium.

Just wondering what is your dream classic car? In other words, if you had the opportunity to personally drive just one aspirational classic car for the day then what would you choose?
I'd happily spend a whole day with an original 427 'street' Cobra...just like this, being devoid of all the silly wide wheels, side pipes and 'race' trinketry that sadly festoon most genuine 427 Cobra these days.nismo48 said:

lol, I had also 3 Fiat 130 200TC racing, and... 3 Fiat Ritmo Abarth 130TC a black, red and grey example, loved the sound of those double carbs with sport filter,, as a young man feeling a bit a rally driver hah.Would probably if funds allowed have the 131 Sport in orange in a reasonable condition (over here in Spain its possible to source relatively corrosion free examples) albeit for a premium.
Stil I look sometimes at those wide Fiat 131 Abarth replica's, some are very nice and in Spain, sometimes cheap nice examples! better then here in the Netherlands.
