The green Twin Cam looks a nice car, and someone thought it was worth 53 grand. It doesn't seem out of the way and there's a much higher chance of it being a real one than most/many UK cars.
It's a real one, in terms of it being a real Ford-Australia built one, but they are different enough from UK cars that important distinction should be noted.generationx said:
Thats a clean survivor.Unusual to see a plain jane spec car in Purple Velvet, given the extra cost of met paint at the time. Not sure I've ever seen a non-1300E Mk.1 in Purple Velvet before (except the sole Mexico made in Purple Velvet)

ETA I also spun ( and crashed) a metallic brown one.

I recall a few pale blue and mid green metallics back in the day.

Been out the loop for a bit and hadn't seen but just had a read, thanks.I remember the car and really enjoyed following that car's build up back in 2012....see below thread :
http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=25536...
Before it was on PH auctions recently, it was on Race cars direct for a while but it would seem had no buyers.
Great bit of kit, hope the new owner has some fun with it
Signing off for now cheers

I really like that. Quite likely somebody will buy it and start modifying. Lefty said:

Refreshing that someone correctly fitted the body plate before spraying!
I know we’ve had this before, but I don’t think there were so many phots last time?

Potentially interesting one if genuine - allegedly ex-MN road rally Mex.
https://stock.morrisleslie.com/stock/details?listi...
Some odd things though - hard to see properly but looks as if it has a "normal" Escort dual circuit master cylinder/reservoir combo on the bulkhead (under the carbs), presumably the inline servo removed for clearance when fitting the sidedrafts. Assume cable clutch too as no reservoir on the bulkhead.
All obv non-standard for a Mex but "could be" period mods I guess. No mention of what box is has, presumably not a 2000E unless the bellhousing was changed.
Interested to see what it goes for.
Needs the 2" lowering blocks throwing away though.. arrrrrgh!

So, a previous owner from the 80's claims the car was originally Diamond White, but the AVO build plate shows it as being originally the colour it is now, Olympic Blue...?https://stock.morrisleslie.com/stock/details?listi...

More like it had been resprayed white during its rally career, and has now been put back to original in more recent years.
Being a Sept '73 build, it would have had the bracket mounted servo, so as you say, all removed for fitted the carbs.
Obviously retro-fitted with cloth seats/recliners and a console as well.
For an ex-road rally car, and one that seems quite original shell-wise, it doesn't look too bashed about. Front panel has been replaced though with an early one though, as has the crank handle grommet.

Plus the sills look to be about a foot thick and I'm pretty sure a 1973 car should have the sports wheels and the three spoke wheel with the 'RS' centre.More like it had been resprayed white during its rally career, and has now been put back to original in more recent years.

Olympic blue was an absolutely vile colour to my eyes, especially after that glorious Electric blue before it. Olympic blue is a wishy washy nothing colour best suited to Allegro panda cars and those Invacar heaps.
That just looks like a well used old Escort that's been given a quick flash over. Alright if it's cheap but I'm sure there will be much better ones.

The steering wheel would have been a standard flat rim RS 3-spoke wheel in Sept '73, but many people using their cars in competition, swapped them out for the deep dish Springalex wheel as fitted here, which was an over the counter option from Ford Motorsport, as this was the wheel used on the works rally cars, and had the been the optional wheel (not the RS one) for the first 12 months or so of Mexico production.
