Sorry to be that person but not 100% correct, early cars (1980 to 1987) used a 2144cc with the displacement dropped to 2133cc this was so that Audi could satisfy the 3-litre rallying class with a 1.4 times multiplication factor.Later cars were 2226cc (1987–89) or 2226cc with a 20v head (1989–91).

The thread lives ! I was going to let it wither on the vine but maybe there’s some life in it yet.
I might just get my Lotus Sunbeam reference in later this week…..
I don't think we're done yet, Mr Moff. You'll get your Sunbeam Lotus reference, although I may not get my SAAB 9000 or Morris Minor 1,000,000.I might just get my Lotus Sunbeam reference in later this week…..
To keep it going, here's a cheeky little 2146 for you:
Connie Anderson of Warwick, Rhode Island, writes:
My grandfather, John A. Anderson, was the first to have the license plate, "2146," which has now spanned four generations. The last car I remember him driving was a Pontiac. My contention is that my grandfather, who was born in 1898, was probably the 2,146th person to register a car in Rhode Island.
In 1967, when he passed, the plate went to his older son, my father, Howard D. Anderson Sr. When my father passed in 1980, the license plate remained on the car that my mother, Edythe Anderson, was driving.
In 1988, when my mother passed, I was the oldest grandchild of John living in Rhode Island, so the license plate was passed to me, Connie Anderson, and placed on my Santa Fe. I replaced my Santa Fe, so the plate was placed on the Elantra. Shortly afterward, I purchased another car to replace my son's car.
Since I wanted to get back into an SUV, the plate from my son's car was transferred to my Outlander. The 2146 plate remains on the Elantra that is now my son's (Kevin Thibault's) car.
Kevin, though not carrying the Anderson name, is the great-grandson of John, the first owner of the license plate.
