A classic story of the demise of the British car industry in the 70's when it became much easier to buy that 'foreign rubbish' that by then, actually wasn't that all that rubbish as it turned out.
Indeed. Always remember my old uncle John always going on about 'foreign muck' in an exaggerated way when I was a kid. He loved his Triumph Toledo.
My dad's first car in '72 was a Citroen GS ordered from the Earls Court Motor Show as he couldn't get a Viva delivered in time for Christmas.
That probably shaped my whole views on cars as I got to sit in an SM on the Citroen stand as my dad had placed an order. That blew my 6 year old mind.
Just to clear this up, aren't the wires on lowdrag's E-Type painted wires, as opposed to chrome wire wheels?
They look pretty spot on and look lovely. IMHO of course.
Chrome wire wheels just make me think of those overly shiny things you'd see on MGBs restored in the 1980s along with piped leather seating and an added walnut dash.
Don't like CWW, love painted wires.

Loved my old 3.6 XJS, such a cool, cool car. 1) Won't fit in my garage.
2) Not ULEZ compliant/exempt.
That Daimler is lovely.
But, I'd find it hard to shake off fifty odd years of (totally irrational) perception.
In my mind, Daimlers were 'old man' cars, hearses, funeral limos and not 'sporty'.
Whereas the exact same car with a Jag grille, wheels, badges and steering-wheel is 'sporty', cool, fast, has Le Mans history, sports-car relatives. It's a Jag!
It's absolutely an irrational thought-process, but if I bought that (lovely) blue Sovereign, in the back of my mind I'd always be hankering after an XJ6.
Anybody else feel this way or am I the only one with this strange affliction?
Maybe in ten years time when I'm 67, my mind may change.

To be honest Rob , I was considering packing in the modern cars and just keeping a classic . I am finding it harder and harder to justify a performance car that's nigh on impossible to enjoy outside of a Track Day . I am 60 years of age and far from irresponsible when it comes to driving but I am enjoying it less and less
I only use my 55 year old Amazon now, probably drive it 6 days out of 7 all through the year. Love it! Starts first time every time and is great fun to drive. Probably one of my favourite cars I've ever owned. My TVR doesn't really move now, and just sits in the garage. I'd be lucky to say it's done 75 miles since 2020. Keep telling myself I must get around to polishing it and putting it up for sale.
