Wife of a friend has one - lives in Monte Carlo, so quite the thing. Wasn't one used in The Prisoner ?
I think they used four all together, one of which has survived and been restored....

You'd have a better view of the plate from that grassy knoll on the left.

Back to the Wolfsburg pic , I can see a Renault 4 and a BMW 5 series amongst all the VAG but what's in front of the orange

Beetle on the RH of the pic ?

I think it was a joke. Probably a reference to the Lambretta or DelBoy's van.

Yes, I think it's an RO80 - rear pillar vent is a clue

Also, I think the BMW is a 02 series (pre 3 series) rather than a 5 (if we're talking about the yellow one in the centre of the pic).

1974 I reckon. My father was a faithful VW - ist in the 70's and had many examples from that shot - Beetle 1303, Type 3 Variant, Scirocco, B1 Passat...

'Prisoner' Mokes look different because of their near-vertical screens. But photo below suggests the screen hinged and could be set at normal rake or near-vertical by a simple spanner job. Wonder if it could be laid flat across the bonnet as well (with wipers removed or parked appropriately) ?
