Were these marketed alongside of, or instead of, Capris?

Still had capri and granada coupes. These being European cortina

This one being a French import.

Front valance is different as cortina curves where tsunus is straight down.. theres a local cortina with the taunus Front valance and fibreglass wings that's been modded to fit flush

Has the sloped dash as early mk3 has as well as 4 clocks in front of centre console

Front seats has option. To change the height where I've never seen a mk3 seats with option to raise or lower height

As has been discussed on the Coupes of the 80s and 90s thread, there did used to be quite a market (particularly in Europe) for 2 door saloons and coupe versions of regular, 4 door cars. It was never so strong in the UK, where we tended only to choose 2 doors where 4 weren't available.

See Volvo 240, Opel Commodore, Ford Granada, Audi 80 & 100 and even VW Jetta etc for evidence.

Thanks for the information. What a lot of complexity !
See below for proof my memory is going.

Front valance is 'stone deflector' in Ford speak.

A couple of weekends ago, I was down in Pembrokeshire, and saw a 2-dr Volvo 240GT in RHD eek.....owned by a guy only in his early 20's. It was an import from Australia, and was a cracking car. Guy was a full on Volvo nerd, which was also nice to see from someone so young.

Back to the Taunus coupe.

According to my parts book the front seat height adjuster is indeed Germany / Taunus only, not GB / Cortina.
The lucky Germans also had the availability of a factory fitted sliding sun roof on these cars, we had to wait for the Mk4 to get that option.

In the UK, fairly rare in the basic smaller engine spec, i think, most seemed to be 2.8s & fully equipped, as I recall it - but Ford were massive in the late 70s, early '80s, so there were quite a few about. These days, they pop up on the usual auction site fairly often.

Ford UK did toy with the idea of making a RS Granada based on this 2-dr version, and anecdotal evidence is that AVO built one with a turbo 3.1 Essex, manual box, Scheel seats, and painted in purple velvet. The oil crisis knocked the idea on the head however. A shame though, like many of the other AVO specials, it never survived.

I only have volume 1 of this Taunus / Cortina parts book. Sometimes referred to as TC 1, as it was the first FOG / FOB joint Taunus-Cortina project.
I do have the complete microfiche version but that's not as convenient. The books occasionally turn up at autojumbles, if you are lucky.

Aah....those were the days, when you went into a parts dept, and the old boy in a brown coat would grab a microfiche card and slide it around the glass plate, staring into the dimly lit to look for the right part number while you pointed at the right part.......

I remember those - the Peugeot dealer I worked at 1992-97 had one. It was orange and, to a young sales exec, very mysterious. Towards the end of my time there we went digital so it was dismantled and placed in the loft. While up there we discovered something in excess of 500 soup bowls that were supposedly a dealer promotion from before my time. Clearly they weren't popular. I acquired a few and used them as small parts storage in my garage for many years after. We also discovered a stash of Hillman Imp parts (the dealership had been Rootes Group prior to the takeover) and donated them to the Imp Club.
