MkII Golf GTi spotted by a colleague in Harpenden this morning:

If genuine, that is an incredibly rare car. VW made 16,000 special edition "1 in10 million" cars in 1988 to celebrate 10 million Golfs built - carb and GTI. 8000 stayed in Germany, the UK got fewer than 1,000 and all of them GTIs. There was a roughly equal split of 8v and 16v (this is a 16v - bee sting ariel), 3 dr and 5 dr. 3 colours were available Helios Blue, Metallic Black or Oak Green - so this is 1 of 80 ish in the UK.

I assume it's a "1 in 10" as Oak Green was only available in this special edition on the small bumper cars.

This car has the wrong wheels. The special edition cars had Le castellet forged alloy wheels and central locking, a stripy rainbow interior, tints, half tint rear lights.and I think an interior light delay as standard over the boggo car. I had a later big bumper car with many of those features as standard.

The correct wheels are like this one

I had a Helios blue "1 in 10" and was told of its rarity, still sold it for about £2500 10 years ago. Probably worth adding an extra 0 to that now.

Another spot on the way to the shed, a Morris Tourer

Shortly afterwards a light blue TR4a passed, then later on a yellow ERF or Foden recovery truck, probably on the way to this weekend's fairly local steam and truck rally.

Yeah, you need soft things like sponges for washing cars.

For today's fascinating facts after a row over the direction the Foden company was going Edwin Richard Foden left the company and formed ERF.

Around the time my parents married they owned a car that they referred to as a convertible, but mainly by the reg BUL 436. I have many of their photos, but I can't fond any of the car (which I find surprising). I have found a folder with their bills over the first couple of years of them buying their first house and I have found the renewal proposal.

Would this be a similar vehicle. I'll post a couple of photos of cars on their drive or back garden, but don't think these are theirs.

We complain about the price of insurance now but 9.3% of max value seems a lot!
