Interesting location of a spare wheel on this MGB parked at a garage in Market Drayton this morning.

I did look at doing that with my MGB but decided the boot strut wouldn't hold the weight on just 1 side without twisting the boot. I now just dont take a spare any more, most modern cars dont have one and I cant remember needing one (shouldn't say that!)

No photos as all travelling towards me, but spotted an early Maserati Quattroporte earlier - gold metallic with (I think) 1868 D registration

Then at the other end of the scale, a TR7 soft top with a Mini Clubman in convoy

If genuine, that is an incredibly rare car. VW made 16,000 special edition "1 in10 million" cars in 1988 to celebrate 10 million Golfs built - carb and GTI. 8000 stayed in Germany, the UK got fewer than 1,000 and all of them GTIs. There was a roughly equal split of 8v and 16v (this is a 16v - bee sting ariel), 3 dr and 5 dr. 3 colours were available Helios Blue, Metallic Black or Oak Green - so this is 1 of 80 ish in the UK.

I assume it's a "1 in 10" as Oak Green was only available in this special edition on the small bumper cars.

This car has the wrong wheels. The special edition cars had Le castellet forged alloy wheels and central locking, a stripy rainbow interior, tints, half tint rear lights.and I think an interior light delay as standard over the boggo car. I had a later big bumper car with many of those features as standard.

The correct wheels are like this one

That's some very strong bearding- top work.

I'll see if he took anymore pics as he only sent me that one.

I so wanted an Oak Green 16V GTI.

So much want. But...

the Oak Green ones were really expensive.

paperbag

It had been rebuilt at home by the bloke who crashed it early in its life. All the salvageable bits went into a new bodyshell. He couldn't afford some of the trim bits and bought a bodykit to get by. There were quite a lot of clonks and rattles suggesting he wasn't a great mechanic. It looked dreadful but was very quick. Mrs C liked the colour and my standing with the local layabouts improved no end. After a couple of years I gave it to my eldest son and he later passed it on to my youngest son. We lost track of it after that.

ETA Apart from the A-Series BMC engine, which I like for sentimental reasons, the 1.8 16V VW engine is my favourite 4 cylinder. If it had been available in for-and-aft configuration, it would have made a brilliant engine for a Caterham.

Close; the holes are for your dignity to drain out. I'm on my fourth pair. Best Garden shoes ever.

Cooler than a very cool thing in the not-so-cool underground car park in Newbury.

I wanted to buy some for gardening and washing the car. But my wife said that if I did, she’d leave me.

Essential on a car with no roof, surely, to allow the incoming rain to drain out? smile

Not yesterday, obviously, but earlier last week they'd have helped.

To conclude this I'm afraid that there weren't anymore pics of that Golf - shame, intrigued now as to whether it is a really rare one.
