So it turns out it isn't running a small block Chevy (my memory must be playing tricks on me) in fact it's got an Alpina installed - and according to the DVLA the capacity is stated as 5365 so it must be a V12? The Alpine hasn’t moved from that spot for the past year - and for 2 years before that it was up on one of the garage ramps

Swapping a 327 V8 for a BMW V12 would be a very strange thing to do, given that American engine is likely to be more reliable, weigh less and produce greater power.
