So on the way home from a long day at work today, sitting in traffic, a young lady looses concentration and drives into the back of my pride and joy  . Many tears and apologies later and we've swapped details and are on our way (tears on her part... and definitely apologies).

My questions are basically this. Before I go to her insurance company and start the process of making a claim, what should I be ready to ask or tell them to do with my car?

The damage doesn't seem too bad; the rear clam is split though just above the lower crease above the exhaust grille bit. Also some spider fractures in the paint around the offside light clusters as you can see in the pics. Would I be asking too much to insist that the car is taken to a lotus specialist for repairs? Or any recommendations on somewhere in Aberdeen capable of making a good job? I'm guessing it’s probably a new clam job really, I'm not sure I’d accept a paint and filler job, or am I being too fussy?

There doesn't seem to be any other damage on the surface, might get under it tomorrow and have a proper look.

What do you guys think?

I would have faith in the inspecting engineer. They should know what they're looking at and what is common procedure for this type of repair. It would be beneficial to you to be there in person when the inspecting engineer views the damage. You can speak with them expressing your concerns. I'm sure they'll tell you what their best thoughts are regarding repair.

Any repair done will come with a gaurantee, A mate at work had his nose (elise not his!) done and redone as it started to craze again after a gentle tap it was done at an insurance companies recommeded repairer!. The main thing is to make sure who ever looks at the car knows it needs work on it done by someone who is good on plastic cars and knows what they are doing, any old bodyshop or one that does not work with fibre glass is not what you want. Cant suggest anyone in Aberdeen, can recommend a few near me, (Norfolk!)

specialist only !!!! looks to me like a new rear clam shell, and would be less labour to do that than repair all those gel coat cracks.

I damaged my Elise and as a Club Lotus member used their own accident management helpline. Hilton Moss approved Lotus and Mercedes repairers did a first class job, collected it and returned it.

Intriguing. Is this something unique to Club Lotus? What exactly / who are accident manage helpline? Sounds like something many other brand owners could do with if it saves / prevents cars from write off by over zealous insurers.
