Because they realised that a large amount of changes were required in order to Federalise it. America is a market that will either make or break Lotus (it will almost certainly help Lotus a great deal) so strategically more important to can the M250 and get things right firt time with the Elise, and then the Esprit replacement.

Shame, but it makes sense.

Shame isnt the word. That thing was gorgeous... Would have gone like stink and handled like a dream (Hey since when has a lotus ever NOT done that?)

*Anorak moment on*
Even the interior was a work of art.
Rather liked the handbrake

The M250 interior has been used in a Proton.
Can't remember which model, saw pics the other day.

I was extremely high on the list for that (ordered one about an hour after it was revealed), and was furious when Lotus cancelled it. Not only for the act of cancellation, but for the way they did not bother to tell anyone directly (only told the press, not people who had paid a deposit), and quibbled over paying the money back.
