RE: Elise vs Mustang

Elise vs Mustang
David vs Goliath and we like the result :)
Discussion
When usually they go on about brute power triumphing over everything falling back on the reliability argument is fairly weak...
If possible i'm now even more looking forward to Elise in the US. I hope that the Toyota engined version is not too far behind this Sun prepared version.
18 months = 547 days and counting....

Hmmm. According to the Saleen web page, the S281 Mustang won't come close to the Cobra R, less power, less lateral G. (38k USD)
The S281-E might, as it has more horses, but saleen for whatever reason have skipped the performance data for this one. (64k USD)
The SR definitely will kill the Cobra and the Elise, and probably the Esprit too. Then again it costs 160k USD.
And I don't know anyone with one of these or I'd have borrowed it by now

Was talking about the S351 ("Speedster"). About 495 supercharged horses (get it horses - mustang - never mind too late at night). I think this is the vehicle that has evolved into the SR. Same car they were wiping up a lot of people with in the SCCA races in the early/mid 90's.
I personally don't like Mustangs. But I do like Saleen. If they were to drop an S7 off at my doorstep I wouldn't complain.

The real limitations of the Mustangs are the horrendous weight distribution and terrible suspension design (bad camber curves up front and the solid axle cars suffer from linkage binding up in hard cornering). There are a few aftermarket suppliers (Griggs, Maximum Motorsports) that supply good components but they're band-aids on what is essentially 1979 economy car design. Saleen is not well regarded among the hardcore Mustang track guys.
Mike - still hasn't outgrown the need for a 5.0 LX some day.

just read the article. 1.02 on the skidpad-nice. the most impressive number to me is the 192 measured rwhp. whoa! and as for the comparo i think that the ZO6 and the elise would be better. 405 hp, grip that embarrasses almost any car (although the highest numbers ive seen for it were 1.01). Huge vs tiny. only thing is that the vette has all of the creature comforts. on the other hand it has horrible visibility.
