Anyone know the correct timing belt number for an 87 Excel? Took the old one off yesterday and found the new one has square teeth. I need a belt with round teeth but have not managed to find a part number.

This may be a little late , but the number you want is B912E6697F. The round teeth indicate it is the HTD (high torque drive) version used on the high compression engines..

Phillip, are you still looking for that timing belt? I found a local supplier that got the correct belt from Gates for me.

Let me know if you are still looking.

Is it a motor factor? I'm looking for a Gates agent so I can order a Kriket gauge to tension my new belt.
Thanks,

Paul.

Paul, the Krikit guage you are thinking of is not made by Gates. If I recall correctly it is made by a Colorado Companuy HMC Instruments or something like that. If you get stuck let me know because I know someone that has bought a Krikit guage. I think he got his one sent over from the US.

Tim Engel on the 4-seaters Yahoo email group has offered to send one over from the states if I can't locate one here. He seemed to think it was made by Gates, and it is shown on their website.
So, if I can find a Gates agent in the UK, they may also be able to get the tensioner.

Paul.
