Hi,

Sorry that I cant personally help (little far away) buttry the guys on the Excel Forum:
http://ccgi.arcnet.force9.co.uk/

They are quite knowledgable and should be able to point you in the right direction for a restorer in the area.

What Classic Lotus you have?

When you join Club Lotus, they will give you a list of Lotus Specialists. I'm not a member these dasy, but if you ask around on the specialist classic Lotus forums (places like LotusElan.net), I'm sure someone will have the answers you're looking for.

Alstenatively, gatecrash your local Club Lotus/Lotus Driver's Club monthly meeting (they're usually held at a pub and if you turn up and talk Lotuses, nobody will mind that you're not a club member.

Having said all which, genuine classic Lotus specialists - who can be trusted to know what they're talking about - are few and far between. The nearest I can think of to you are Tony Thompson Racing in Melton Mowbray (more race orientated) and Pat Thomas (Kelvedon Motors), in Spalding, Lincolnshire.

Then there's Paul Matty Sports Cars (Bromsgrove, on the M5), Chris Foulds up near Huddersfield and Miles Wilkins (Fibreglass Services) in West Sussex.

After that, I'd be running out of names in the UK that I'd trust (and no, I haven't forgotten UK Sportscars in Kent wink).

The above are all 'general' Lotus specialists, though. You may be looking for, say, a paintwork specialist, an engine man, a specialist in a specific model, or a components supplier... it would help us to know which Lotus you own and what services you are after.

Start at Brooke Kensington in Bicester one of their clients has an epic Lotus Cortina. Simon is your man, might be able to point you in the right direction.

I'm in Buckingham and can recommend Simon at Brooke Kensington as well. There is also the new dealership at Silverstone to bear in mind. If you're close to the M40 then Paul Matty isn't too far away and have a good range of parts on the shelf.

i was asking more because i would like a job working on them full time instead of just building them occasionally like i do at the moment. Thanks for the help. There is a thread a little way down with an example of my work on a mk1 cortina.
