Not me but I was scouring the classifieds this morning checking up on values, really fancy one.

In fact I have one on my desktop as inspiration!

Ben, you're probably looking at around six grand upwards for a decent car but sometimes you can find a bargain. Contact the owners' club via www.sunbeamlotus.com if you're seriously interested - they often know of cars for sale that don't appear in classified.

In fact, I have one in my garage for inspiration...

Hello there, I'm new to this forum , regarding the Nurburgring trip w/e 14th-17th Aug . It was me in my series 1 Sunbeam Lotus , Thanks for your comments , I was trying hard. I managed a best BTG time of 8-06 whilst having to slow to to pick up my stopwatch from under my feet ( don't ask , it's abit embarrasing ) . On the Sunday , I blew the clutch to bits ,Booo , 180 euros later , we're back in the paddock . We also managed an 8-07 with my passenger hand holding a video camera . Absolutely superb weekend , i blooming love that place , ha ha .The photo is from the Wipperman section .

Guy - you forgot to say that she has full standard trim (except front seats) inside cool which probably weighs half a ton and upto a year ago you never had a cage fitted and you were still doing very impressive times at the ring eek.
One VERY capable car and driver...

To be honist can't believe you haven't stripped the car! its the cheapest and easist way to improve the overall cars ability and perfomance.

I mean my dads one is a race spec 2.2 which is what 230-230bhp? but only weights in at 813kg. Thats what really makes the difference!(well admittedly theres not a stock piece on it lol) but still weight is the biggest killer of speed.
Now just need to get a 2.6 in it biggrin

one question did you trailer it over there? and if so wimp wink driving to events is half the fun yes

As Guy does not frequent the forum often...

Why would you strip the car when its doing low 8 min laps at the ring? its an excellent Q car and would win modified class awards at carshow's due to her mint condition.

Guy's car is a lot quicker than a 240bhp stripped race car (I also have one).

Why drive when you have a free trailer, tow vehicle and fuel.......getting the car on a ferry can be hard enough but why put the mileage on for no reason - yes driving to events can be half the fun, but when your stuck in traffic and its a hot day..?

For a road/track car then 2.4L is probably a better bet-(accordinging to the people in the know).

Just found out my dad knows Guy and just told me of it's condition. That makes all the difference! I didn't know it was so spotless and immaculate as my dad pointed out. I shull now be quiet.
And yes you have a point about travel but still, its always a trip you remember.

I have to say that I've never been a big fan of the "hot hatch." The get exception is the Lotus Sunbean. Just something about it screams cool.

Wish they had them in the US.smile

Hi Matt , In answer to your trailer question ,it's more about getting it back home in case the worse happens, or any form of breakdown , also i have to take plenty of spares , tools , and family or friends . I do agree , driving to events is half the fun , but it's just not practical , Who's your dad ?

Ok yes i was speaking complete rubbish. The nurburgring is way to far in a race/tuned spec sunbeam, be really uncomfortable.
Totally agree with all that you've said, of course you need to take equipment with you, and clothes for you and passenger. i wasn't really thinking about what i said in my original comment now i look back at it!!

my dad is martyn ellis. does lots of sprints and hillclimbs. obssessed with getting weight down on the car! might know of him by that!
