Hi,

The brakes on my car are making a constant noise. This seems to happen when they get slightly warm as it doesn't happen for the first 5 minutes of each journey. From then on they are making a constant noise when just driving along. This gets worse when turning. The noise stops when I apply the brakes. Then as soon as the pedal is released it starts again.

whats going on ?

I'm guessing that there is so little clearance that when the discs warm up a little they expand enough to make contact ? Could this be the case ? Its driving me nuts and its quite embarrasing.

Any ideas ?

thanks

I have the same issue, just more intermittent - it was so bad in traffic the other night I almost got out of the car and walked away. I'm taking the Lotus to Paul at http://www.psrautomotive.com/ for a full service next week, so will ask about the noise then! smile

Let me know how it goes. I took the wheel off at the weekend for a better look and the pads are very close so I think it may be something like heat causing the discs to expand a little.

Can be an early symptom of brakes binding on.

I would take the pads out and clean up the touch points between pads, calipers and pistons. Work the pistons fully in and out then reassemble with a little copper slip and bleed the brakes through.

I think you might be right there. I've noticed under hard braking the front left (which is the one making 90% of the noise) seems to lock up much easier than the rest.

Looks like a job for the weekend.

Thanks for the advice.

Well, the Exige is back from PSRAutomotive, and as part of the service its had the brakes bled, pads removed and cleaned up etc. No more noise - all discs and pads were fine. Sorry I can't be of more help, but if it continues, I suggest ringing Paul at PSR - their number is on the website below:

I've managed to fix this problem by taking the car to a track day and using the brakes properly. Totally silent now.......
