Lotus Europa & Gentleman

There's a very fine example of a yellow Lotus Europa kicking around Cheshire. I spoke to the owner a couple of weeks ago during a GT meet at Oulton Park. The guy is a regular spectator at Oulton, always parking near the entrance gate at Knickerbrook.
He told me that he bought all the original new parts from the Europa factory & completely built the car from scratch in the 70's aged only 17........Since which he has converted the original Ford Motor from N/A to fuel injection.
I told him that an uncle of mine had one with a renault engine & that he suffered with the front lifting at speed & to compensate he put a bag of sand under the bonnet.........the guy at Oulton explained how to overcome this problem & went on to explain how he set up the suspension using false wheels, suspending the built car on box section.
It's always a pleasure to meet people such as this gentleman & listen to their stories.........they are the motoring salt of the Earth.
