RE: AdrianR's Lotus Elise
Discussion
Not sure if I can talk for this poster, but there was a recent discussion concerning this on the Turboesprit board. Apparantly, according to one of the GT racer types, Nitrogen is less likely to contain moisture, therefor keeping the tires inflated to proper pressure or some such...
...went completely over my head, but the racer felt it was the "way to go" for the track? Unsure of the benefits for everyday driving considering air is, well, FREE!

Was done at my local branch of Merityre in Leatherhead. It's now their standard policy, as tyre rubber is less permeable to Nitrogen so tyres don't go soft over time as much - good idea as most folks never check their tyre pressures.
It's also supposed to be dry, and therefore expand less when hot - I got it cos I do track days and I know that 23-24lbs cold is 29-30lbs after 10 minutes hooning it round in circles, so I manage to wear the centre section of the tyres more than the edges. However, I'm not convinced it works as I did a few laps of Brands on the Easytrack day in early feb, and still managed to get the tyres up to 26lbs pretty quickly.
Nitrogen fill is £1.25/tyre, with free checks and topups. Take your own gauge tho - they decided to give me a super value fill of 31lbs!
Cheers,
AdrianR
(and yes, I believe racers do use Nitrogen)
