My Elan S2 is about 9 nine yrs young and for the first time it's giving me problems. My Lotus Dealer doesn't seem to find the Isuzu Delco anymore. So now I'm dealing with annoying motormanagement problems. Apart from that my motor seems to heat up, sounds like water is boiling. Strange enough no leaks are detected (have a new radiator since 2 months), cool pump is functioning and no oil leaks. On top of that it gives a strange smell when I stop the engine. Who can help ?

Stop driving it and get the thermostat changed asap

Then check for water loss, this sounds just like a head gasket failure in the making if its not gone already. Also the cooling system must be bled properly to remove all air from the system. Section K of the workshop manual tells you how.
