On the basis you can't buy a new Cerbera anymore, what does it matter?

Or get somewhere without breaking down.

scratchchin You know, thinking about it I don't think I ever have seen a crashed or broken down Elise-generation car at the side of the road.

To be fair to the TVR, apart from the engine rebuilds on the Speed 6 engined cars (which seem to be necessary at every alternate major service wink ) most problems are minor electrical stuff and often don't require roadside recovery.

OK I'll give you the SP6 thing, they do require cams almost as often as the K series requires headgaskets wink

A bit more than cams, usually?

K-series head gasket costs about £600 quid, if you're a complete mechanical numpty and can't/dont want to do the work yourself. With a Speed 6 engine, you can easily add a zero to the end of that price, if you can get hold of the bits.

Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, the Evora doesn't have a K-series. biggrin

What about the back seat? Presence? Interior? Ease of ingress/egress (yes I know we have only seen pictures of the Evora)? Being in the USA, I have not seen either car and know it will be a long time before the Cerbera can come to the USA (25 year rule). Just curious from local knowledge whether a used Cerbera would represent a good value against a new Evora--even allowing for the crazy Cerbera running costs--factor in depreciation of the Evora...

yeh, it's just that whilst we were making sweeping generalisations I thought I'd wade in with mine smile
Not many cerberas with sp6 engines though, for a good reason, the V8s are better smile

  • should point out I'm a Lotus lover as well as TVR lover. They both have faults, they both have plus points. Each to their own smile but I love them both.

Think it depends what you want from them really - my wife and I are both fans of Lotus, she's also a TVR fan. She still wants a Cerbera for the eventual school run - I'd prefer we had an Evora. I'd actually prefer we kept the Elise and got a Ginetta G4 and if we needed to run 2 kids to scool we took one each biggrin (I'd expect the kids would get tired of not having a roof in the XI wink)

No one outside of Lotus has driven one yet. Very few people have got to sit in one and explore them fully. Wait till late Spring/early Summer when their out in the showrooms and dealer cars are available to test drive and we'll be able to answer questions.

Until then, who knows.

I would imagine the Cerb would torture in a straight line battle but where the real driving happens the evora would win.

On the way to work a few weeks back I was sitting in traffic for roughly 15 min to find a broken down Elise (federal version). Chrome orange and a woman driver.

Well said, cant stand idiots who could even start comparing these two cars, complete utter waste of time. They are such different cars in every way..

Straight line speed the Cerbie has so much grunt! But give the Lotus some bends to play with and I bet the tide would turn. But again how you could you even go there without driving one yourself.

A pointless discussion. I've got a TVR Griffith, and am about to buy a Lotus Exige, because TVR's and Lotus are a different kind of car. I love both for different reasons.
