I think that link you give automatically votes for the Esprit when you click it... so you can't vote for anything else.

The Esprit is doing rather well at the moment smile

Well for me the Climax Elite from 1959-1962 will forever be the greatest road car from lotus. It was truly groundbreaking in its time and is one of the most stunningly beautiful cars of all time....There are a couple for sale on this site if you are unsure what they are... take a look wonderful cars

considering that most Europas are in some state of "being restored" or available for parts, may be a good reason for their low vote count. they were okay cars, innovative for their time, but not as practical as an Esprit nor as well built in a relative sense.

OK, define what the criteria is then?

I was merely being pedantic! I don't think one can define 'best' without stating purpose. Its one of the reasons why there isn't really a 'best' Elige: they're all different (to a greater or lesser extent) and either more or less suited to a particular purpose. That's varients of the same base car so making meaningful comparisons between different cars designed with differing purposes is a pointless exercise.
A further thought on my comment about the commercially most successful Lotus: would that honour go to the Seven and its varients? (Not sure on numbers).
