More Clark Elises For Europe

Lotus widens production for Clark Type 25 Elise SC

Lotus Clark Type 25 Elise SC
Lotus Clark Type 25 Elise SC
Lotus fans outside the UK who missed out on the latest special limited edition Elise are in luck – the company has reportedly decided to change the limit. The Lotus Clark Type 25 Elise SC was to be a run of just 25 cars for the UK and Ireland but these have all been snapped up. To satisfy buyers in Europe another 25 will be built for export.

The original run of 25 relates to the number of Grand Prix races Jim Clark won throughout his career. Arguably one of the most naturally gifted drivers of all time, Clark won the F1 World Championship twice for Team Lotus in 1963 and in 1965. He was also the first Briton to win the Indianapolis 500.

The Clark Type 25 Elise SC draws upon many styling cues from the Type 25 Formula 1 car that Jim Clark raced to win the World Championship in 1963. It has a removable hard top as standard and is finished in British Racing Green with a yellow stripe along the centre.

An additional 25 examples of the special-edition Lotus are available now in Europe for €44,100 before local taxes, which translates to about €54k in Germany, France and Italy.

Well yea, doesn't it just. If I just bought one I'd be extremely pissed off. You supposed to be buying into a limited run and you pay a premium for that... then they turn round and say 'oh, actually people will buy more if we make 'em.. er, another 50 please foreman'

For those who put money down.. I'd ask for a discount.

Sir Jim wouldn't have liked it anyway! He was a small unassuming Fifer, he wasn't comfortable in the limelight at all.

As much as I detest sniffpetrol for its not very funny drivel. They have a point. I mean, every other Elise (at least) is a 'special edition' now, isn't it...

I'll bet the owners of the first 25 are a bit pissed off.

Its no problem at all! UK cars are lefthand drive cars, other Europe is righthand drive. People in the UK do not want other Europe cars and the other way around to ....
So it will have no effect on the price. Also, there are so many special Elise around, one or 25 more of them, will not chanche anything. If you like the Elise, you like it, with or without stripes or some stickers.

P,
That article is hilarious and makes its point extremely well. Brilliant. Actually, I think that sniffpetrol is usually rather funny and clever.

If this happened in the US, the owners of the first ones would probably sue. This actually happened to BMW when they introduced the first DOHC M5 in the mid 80's, the E28, I believe. BMW of North America said that the model would be limited to a certain number. When they saw that the car sold better than they expected, they decided to sell more in the US. Some owners of the first cars filed a class-action lawsuit. Of course, in the US, you can also break into someone's house, fall and hurt yourself, and sue the owner of the house.

Errr... you can do that in the UK too.

Have to admit that Lotus are starting to annoy people with all these LE cars, just build them as std chassis and let the sad old chavs create their own LE with the aftersales market.

So with no more LE you can finally build that bloody Esprit replacement.

nono

Well no it doesn't actually, the Type 25 was built to commemorate the anniversary of Jim Clarks death and his most recognised race car was in fact his Lotus 25. Nowt to do with the build number being limited to Type 25.

If it sells cars and brings in additional revenue for Lotus and helps keep 'em afloat - ok in my book...

The more salient point is that this car looks bloody awful!

I wouldn't have thought it possible to make an Elise that looks naff ... but in this colour/wheel combination Lotus seem to have achieved the impossible.

And before anybody goes off on one .... I love Elises and still have a "real" Elise S1 that I bought new in 1998. Still the best shape!

Cheers guys
