as long as you get one which has been well looked aftr prior to your owning it, and you make sure you get it serviced regularly, and dont abuse it, then great idea!

Mr nightmare has a point it is very important that you
have a qualified person make sure that the car has been treated well and serviced regularly, apart from that as long as you treat it with care, letting the engine warm-up when starting etc. and are prepared to spend over 1000 pounds a year on maintanence and sevicing you should be fine.

Actually, i DO get my weekly shopping in mine, without a problem. Also did a trip to Ikea the other day, and fitted stuff in without problems (and no, i didn't just buy some postcards )

Good place to chat with existing owners is the Yahoo group for the esprit:

I also get my weekly Sainsburys stuff in mine ( it's my only car ). You can also fit 2 sets of golf clubs in the boot, as long as you don't use a trolly. The boot is not as small as you might think, don't forget the engine really is in the middle ( unlike certain other mid-engined cars i.e. 911 ) where the engine is nowhere near the middle !

I'm Extremely suprised that you can put so much stuff in an esprit, My Elite, (1980 501), is as close to an estate car that lotus have ever made and that doesn't accomedate all our weekly shop. There's only 3 of us (2 adults and 1 child), therefore i can only assume that you must be very thin. As for your white S3 Esprit, the stuff dreams are made of! Maybe when the loans and morgauge are paid off I'll trade the Elite, but the world's fuel supply will have run out by then! Speak soon, Simon.
