Lotrus car names

Please forgive my ignorance. What/is there any reason why most Lotus models names begin with E?

its a tribute to the Lotus Eleven, isn't it? I don't quite remember the details, but I heard that the Lotus 11 was considered such a great car by its creators that it was only to be refered to as the Eleven (spelled out), so it was not just another number. So from then on, all Lotus road cars were named with an E at the start. The only exception I can think of is the 340R. Cars built before the Eleven are excused from this rule, of course, and Lotus continued to give numbers to its race cars.
