I am looking to purchase either a 7 or an elise this summer as a weekend toy, but do not have a garage to keep it in. Security isn't 'too' much of a problem as I have a long drive and will therefore be kept out of sight. My main priority is protecting it from the elements, so keeping it warm and dry. Added security is preferable, but not mandatory.

Is there a mini garage (is there such a thing?) that can be bought to house it, or a good quality cover that would keep it warm and dry.

Any suggestions would be fab.

Cheers.

Why not just leave it on the drive though?

Have a look at Specialised car covers - recommended by many Elise owners. And if you join Seloc you can get a 10% discount at Specialised.

I'd go for the car cover!!!......This car coon (although a good idea), looks like the sort of thing that would attract pesky kids with thier fag butts. Could end up with patches all over it!!

I have an Esprit and it lives outside in all weathers. Admittedly I have a car cover for when it gets really bad but find myself not using it very much as it's such a pain in the butt! (Drying the car before putting it on, ensuring the car is clean to the soft inside cover doesn't get gritty and scratch the car etc).

Some of the soft top Lotus's I've seen have a weather proof cover for the roof/door seals which looks much better than a full cover.

Incidently, my expensive cover likes to lift off, even when it's strapped up, in high winds and I find it still strapped up but the front and rear uncovered.frown.

Mine have always lived outside, never had a problem. If it's a weekend toy only then not having a cover means you can use a solar trickle charger to keep the battery topped up.

If you really do need a cover and it's a ragtop then you could try a showercape over the hood. That'll keep leaks out and when you're out & about using the showercape instead of the hood will save wear and tear on it.

i was under same problem as you last year - moved from a house with my ex which had a garage to one that had a driveway, but no garage.
I have a shower cap and a full cover - shower cap stopped rain coming through the roof but I went out one day in january and the condensation was dripping from the roof onto the seats - the car was soaking.

I have a full lotus cover, but again, in january the high winds kept blowing it off - even with a bungee tie and clip running from side to side underneath the car.

The next morning I came down to the car in the drive with next doors wheelie bin resting against the front clam after having scraped its way along the length of the car.

i'll be building a garage before autumn come - thats a dead cert!

Do you have room for a garage at all?

Us Esprit owners have a prob with modern, smaller, garages in that we can't get the door open enough to get out! I need to move to a large Garage with a house attached I think!smile
