Help me find my dads old 1967 Lotus Elan PYP751E

Hi all

My dad used to have a 1967 Lotus Elan convertible registered PYP751E, when he had it back in the 70's it was Turquoise (original colour I believe) and had a patched up hood where it had been stolen and recovered in the past.

Does this sound familiar at all?

Do you own or know of this car now?

If the original log book is about it should have an R.L.Wood as a previous keeper.

I'd really like to track this car down.

All help appreciated

Regards

Jez

It's not currently insured and it hasn't been taxed since 1982, so unless it was exported, the chances are it's no longer in existence. frown

For what it's worth, the DVLA are not listing it as having been scrapped or exported (though back in 1982, before the days of SORN, nobody used to bother telling the DVLA when they scrapped a car) and it is listed as being black in colour.

You might try asking Club Lotus and/or the Lotus Driver's Club to post a request in their club magazines, to see if anyone has any knowledge or recollection of its fate.

I was going to suggest the same, but I saw that he already has.

LotusElan.net and the two main Lotus clubs are definitely your best bet though - once you've owned an Elan, you tend to stay an enthusiast for life, so even if the car is no longer around, someone may recall it and know how it met its end.

DVLA website here.

Click on the 'vehicle enquiry' tab. The 'date of liability' is when the tax expired (or will expire, if the car still has valid road tax).

I believe I owned this car. I can remember the PYP and the E reg and think the number was 751.
I bought the car from a person in Bournemouth in probably 1972! It was an Elan series 3 SE. If any of this seems familiar, contact me and I’ll give more details. G
